On Being Resilient Despite the Obstacles

Obstacles…what obstacles...?
On Tuesday morning my year plan was mapped out before me.

On Tuesday afternoon I visited my ENT surgeon to discuss my chronically infected tonsils. He had a good look, and yes, they will have to be removed under surgery on 12th May. The recovery will take at least 2-3 weeks and be very painful, he said. This was a terrible understatement. Thankfully I didn't know this at the time.
For the rest of the day I was sad about this. But the next morning I woke with renewed conviction that this was merely a stumbling block. After both my knees failed into pain last month, now I had to walk with walking sticks until after surgery on my knee joints. I had to fix this chronic infection so that my knee joints could be replaced by surgery in June. I had to get through the tonsil surgery and recover before my knee surgery. With the impending launch of the Resilient Leadership Program, I had to find a way around this. I would work hard to complete all my meetings and background work before the 12th May. Then during my recovery I would complete all my reading and writing for this awe-inspiring project that had such potential to make a positive difference.
This pattern felt good. I could see how I would get through the 2 knee joint replacement surgeries, and their minimum 3 month recovery phases, and complete all my work alongside my fellow co-creators so that we could finish this project. The launch and its follow up WILL happen, it will just take even more determination than I envisaged.
And, dare I say it, I will have to be very, very resilient!
